Greetings from Camp Ta-Kum-Ta! What do you do when you have a conundrum? Well, we here at TKT think you should turn it into a fundraiser.
In 2009, we were fortunate enough to receive several donated commodes. Unfortunately, those commodes were not ADA compliant and, thus, we were unable to install them. So, with that said … Camp Ta-Kum-Ta is happy to announce an exciting new event in 2013 ... “Commodes for Camp”.
Completing the installation of a new septic system is one of our biggest infrastructure needs. This will allow us to have bathroom facilities in every cabin, which is so important to many of the children who are going through treatments and need to use the facilities more often. Having the facilities right in their cabin will make all the difference in the world!
May 13- June 21 local businesses, individuals, and many different sponsors will be able to purchase a commode, decorate it in any theme desirable (let’s keep it clean folks … no potty jokes), display it in their business location, and compete to raise the most funds to fill their commode.
Participating sponsors will be given 6 weeks (MAY 13- JUNE 21) to “Complete and Compete”. On June 23, 2013 all painted commodes will be displayed, with company signage, at the University Mall for a one week period. During that time, the general public will be encouraged to vote for, and donate in, and their favorite commode. On June 29, 2013, representatives from all sponsors will be invited to an awards and recognition ceremony at Camp TKT as a special thank you for taking part.
Camp Ta-Kum-Ta provides a safe, loving place where children who have, or have had, cancer come together, share their stories and simply laugh. There is nothing more joyful than the simple laughter of a child. Please consider becoming involved in this new event and help bring restrooms to our campers.
